On June 27, 2014, four delegates from Karelia University of Applied Science visited HLJIT, including Vice President Pekka Auvinen; Ulla Asikainen, Director of Biological Economy Center; Anna Riitta Mikkonen, Director of Education Development Center; and Xue Meijiao, Director of China Area Cooperation with North Karelia Area, Finland. Vice President Bai Yu had a meeting with the guests.

They had an extensive and deep discussion in the upcoming cooperation between two universities and made substantive progress, covering the application of Finland 2+2 Inter-college Exchange Program, training teachers in Finland, and exchanging students program. The cooperation program between HIT and Karelia University of Applied Science will be launched in the spring of 2015, the advantage of which is mutual credit recognition and free tuition. The program with Finland fills gap in the international exchange and cooperation with North European area. Concerning the high-quality higher education in North European area and financial support for international exchange students by government, North Europe has become the important cooperation area among domestic universities.
